de acomodación comunicativa de los inmigrantes hispanohablantes.; The sociolinguistic integration of the Hispanic immigration in Spain:
language, perception and social identity. In the last two decades, the
immigrant population in Spain has grown quickly and progressively.
Within this population, the most people who have arrived at our
country, by way of migratory fl ows, have been coming from Latin
America, along with fl ows composed of Moroccans and Romanians.
The integration of the Hispanic immigrants in the linguistic plane
presents different characteristics and problems to those immigrants
who are native speakers of a language other than Spanish, gaining
relevance, in this specifi c case, psychosocial factors that affect the
individual sphere. Paying attention to the most recent cognitive
perspectives in the study on Spanish varieties, this work refl ects on the
infl uence that the native language varieties’ perception on migratory
contexts and social identity have in the process of communicative
accommodation for Spanish speaking immigrants.

These pages present studies and
trends in Spanish linguistics regarding Hispanic migration and its
consequence. This migration can be typifi ed in accordance with the
places of origin and destination, the languages of the migrants and
the host communities, and the reasons for the migration. Attention
is drawn to the most burning issues related to society, the individual
and languages in contexts of migration, and some thought is given
to what might be the most fruitful future contributions to be made
by applied linguistics in areas such as education, sociology or
globalization studies.
