<description>Future warming enhances rates of population increase of arthropod crop pests globally
San Segundo Molina, Darío; Morales Castilla, Ignacio; Villén Pérez, Sara
Arthropod herbivores cause severe crop yield losses worldwide. Global warming is expected to shift their ranges, phenologies and performances, highlighting the need for improved forecasts of their potential expansion and impacts on food security. After decades of experimental research on thermal biology of arthropod crop pests, available data and tools now allow to model their temperature-dependent population growth (i.e. population-level thermal performance curves, or TPCs), which approximate their fundamental thermal niches. Thermal limits of these TPCs can inform biogeographic predictions on latitudinal adaptation to cold and heat, while TPC predictions for population growth rates help assess whether warming will benefit or constrain pest populations. We compiled a dataset on the thermal biology of arthropod crop pests and fitted TPCs to examine the projected shifts in performance under historic and future climates relative to their thermal niches, which were examined through modelling the latitudinal variation of their population-level thermal limits. Our findings highlight that most arthropod crop pests are projected to increase their thermal potential for population growth under warming by 2050, with temperate populations retaining room to grow but tropical populations increasingly exposed to heat stress. These findings can be explained by the asymmetric variation of thermal niche limits for these intrinsic rates of population increase, since we found that lower thermal limits declined with latitude, while upper thermal limits remained constant.

<title>New dates for the emergence of the megalithic phenomenon on the Iberian Plateau: the funerary practices of Valdelasilla, Toledo (Spain)</title>

This study presents an analysis of funerary practices at the site of Valdelasilla (Illescas, Toledo, Spain). The methodology integrates the morphological study of burial structures, anthropological analyses, a consideration of grave goods and the radiocarbon dating of human bone. The chronological data indicate funerary activity at the site from the Late Neolithic to the Chalcolithic period. Bayesian modelling confirms the establishment of a planned cemetery by the end of the fifth millennium cal. BC, featuring small burial chambers organized around a larger tomb enclosed by a ditch. The burial chambers, which were constructed from wood, clay and small stones, created distinct spaces for the deceased. This embryonic form of monumentalization, the funerary practices observed and the early chronology link Valdelasilla to other peninsular cemeteries associated with the emergence of megalithism, now identified for the first time on the plateau. The location of the necropolis offers new insights into the role of inland regions in the emergence of Iberian and European megalithism.

<title>Tropical belt expansion and its impacts on climate variability in the Mediterranean from 1980 to 2022</title>

<description>Tropical belt expansion and its impacts on climate variability in the Mediterranean from 1980 to 2022

This paper explores the long-term variability of climatic parameters over the Mediterranean region and their relationship with tropical belt expansion by investigating observational and reanalysis data from January 1980 to December 2022 through multiple approaches, including correlation, linear regression, and singular value decomposition (SVD) analysis. The lapse rate tropopause height exhibits upward trends of approximately 80.58 m per decade. Concurrently, the tropical belt shows a poleward expansion of approximately 0.14 and 0.27° per decade, estimated using the tropopause drop and tropopause gradient methods, respectively. The tropical edge latitudes (TELs) of both applied approaches show an evident seasonal variation. In addition, the two TEL definitions exhibit consistent correlation patterns with surface temperature (Ts), lower tropospheric temperature (Trp-1), upper tropospheric temperature (Trp-2), precipitation, and the Standardized Precipitation Evapotranspiration Index (SPEI). The results of the SVD analysis depict that although the leading mode explains the majority of the covariance between TELs and the examined climatic parameters, the second coupled mode shows more localized spatial structures, with TELs pronouncedly coupling with Ts and Trp-1 in the eastern Mediterranean. Furthermore, Ts and Trp-1 have significant increasing trends, which are abundant in the eastern Mediterranean. On the other hand, both precipitation and SPEI exhibit downward trends. Over the Mediterranean region, climatic parameters show an apparent spatial and temporal variation. The results confirm the linkage between climatic parameters? trends and variability with the TELs? variability patterns over the study area, especially in the eastern Mediterranean region.

The integration of ICT in educational processes has revolutionized the way we teach and learn. For teachers to be able to accompany this new educational paradigm, it is essential that they are equipped with the necessary tools and knowledge to use ICT effectively in the classroom. Safe digital coexistence requires not only imposing restrictions, but also empowering people to use ICTs responsibly and critically. This requires a comprehensive approach where families, schools and communities collaborate to build a positive online environment. As educators and security experts, we must lead by example and provide the tools and knowledge necessary for young people to not only coexist in the digital age, but thrive in it. Digital skills must be developed to safely and critically use technology in work, leisure and communication. Training in digital skills is essential for teachers: to improve their way of teaching and to connect with students. A study is carried out in 2023 with future educators of Early Childhood and Primary Education, from the Faculty of Education of the UAH, of the Double Degree of Teaching in Early Childhood Education and Primary Education. The objective is to analyze their use of the network. They are future educators. The Common Framework of Digital Teaching Competence is being worked on, which divides digital competences into five large areas: Information and literacy; Commu-nication and collaboration; Creation of digital content; security; Problem solving.
