During the 16th and 17th centuries, many notarial documents in Spain, signally those of a
private nature, as contracts, began to include the signature (or a note on the incapacity to
sign) of the parts. This change occurred in the context of increased literacy rates and of a
reform of the notarial activities. In this paper, we investigate 1000 documents of these centuries contained in the linguistic corpus CODEA. Through a distinction between probatory,
dispositive and petitionary documents, and between documents written by professionals
(notaries) and non-professionals, the paper reflects on the possibilities of research offered
by the data contained in these documents.

Hernández Muñoz, Natividad; Blanco Canales, Ana
Previous studies analysing the differences in emotionality in first and second language suggest that affective content of lexical items is modulated in certain contexts. This paper investigates the differences in valence and arousal ratings for 300 early words, in both oral and written modalities, through speakers? subjective appraisal of words given by two immersion groups of Spanish late bilinguals (Chinese and European) compared with a group of native speakers. The main goal of our study is to identify the lexical areas where variability occurs, regarding to a set of affective (emotional charge and intensity), grammatical (nouns, adjectives and verbs) and semantic (concreteness) features of words. Our results show that valence is the dimension where the greatest variability is observed between native and bilinguals, although the influence of the independent factors differs considerably. Besides, arousal yields illuminating data regarding the grammatical category of words and differentiation between the groups of participants.

Blanco Canales, Ana; Nogueroles López, Marta Francisca
This article is aimed to present a proposal for the categorization of phonic errors, which has
been developed within the project AACFELE, with the objective of studying the Phonics component in
depth. Throughout these pages we are intended to display both the theoretical framework in which the
proposal has been formulated and the criteria which have been followed. We will describe the different
sections and subsections of the classification and illustrate each one of them with examples of phonic
mistakes made by native speakers of eleven distinct languages. Our main goal is to provide a tool for
analysis that makes it possible to describe, categorize and tag, uniformly, any type of phonic error in
such a way that the outcomes obtained with prospective studies, apart from being comparable, will
contribute to valid hypothesis formulation. We hope that it will promote further studies in order to
embrace both error analysis and interlanguage from a multidimensional perspective.

comprensión auditiva de los estudiantes.; The present study focuses on investigating the impact of strategy
instruction on listening comprehension competency of Hong Kong
students of Spanish. Participants in the study were arranged in two
groups—the experimental and the control group—with identical
characteristics, needs, listening materials, and opportunities for listening.
Students in the first group were trained in learning strategies through a
program of instruction based on the development of listening strategies.
In the second group, listening comprehension was taught by playing
audio recordings and presenting listening activities. Listening
comprehension proficiency of students in both groups was tested by
means of four achievement tests. Results suggest that strategy
instruction improves students’ listening competence.
