%X This article traces the development of the political radicalism prevalent in the United
States during the 1960s as a dramatic shift from the economic boom and Cold War tension of the post-World War II era. The conflicts that erupted in East Asia following World War II, specifically the Vietnam War, began awakening the consciousness of certain portions of the American public. The Civil Rights Movement marked the collective resistance of African- Americans to the discrimination practiced by whites. Women and university students similarly formed groups to fight for equality and liberalization of the conservative establishment. It proved
to be these small groups that previously had not been considered within the traditional visión of social class the ones who would be capable of carrying out an anti-system movement.
